Ingredients

  • 900 grams fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 2 cans (10.5 oz each) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1.5 cups crispy fried onions
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 as needed cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Spray the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and blanch the green beans for 4-5 minutes, then immediately transfer to an ice water bath to stop the cooking process. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and black pepper until combined.

Step 4

Place the blanched green beans in the slow cooker and pour the soup mixture over them. Stir gently to coat the beans evenly in the sauce.

Step 5

Dot the top with small pieces of butter for added richness.

Step 6

Cover and cook on low heat for 4 hours, stirring once halfway through if possible.

Step 7

In the last 15 minutes of cooking, sprinkle the crispy fried onions evenly over the top of the casserole. Replace the cover and let cook for the final 15 minutes.

Step 8

Once done, give the casserole a gentle stir to mix the onions slightly into the sauce and serve hot.
