Ingredients

  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon White vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 70 milliliters Warm water
  • 50 grams Cornstarch (for rolling dough)
  • 500 milliliters Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 250 grams Honey
  • 100 grams Sugar
  • 120 milliliters Water (for syrup)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 100 grams Chopped walnuts

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, olive oil, white vinegar, and salt until well combined.

Step 2

Slowly add the flour to the egg mixture while kneading by hand or using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment. Gradually add the warm water until the dough is smooth and elastic. If it's too sticky, add a little more flour.

Step 3

Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Step 4

While the dough rests, prepare the honey syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, sugar, and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring gently, until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 5

Once the dough has rested, divide it into small portions. Roll out each portion on a surface lightly dusted with cornstarch until it is paper-thin.

Step 6

Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into long strips, approximately 4–5 cm wide and 20–25 cm long.

Step 7

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat until it reaches around 175°C (350°F).

Step 8

Carefully place one strip of dough into the hot oil. Quickly roll it up with tongs or a fork as it fries to create a spiral or coil shape. Fry until golden and crispy, about 1–2 minutes. Repeat with the remaining strips.

Step 9

Remove the fried thiples and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Step 10

Drizzle the warm honey syrup generously over the fried thiples.

Step 11

Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and chopped walnuts for garnish.

Step 12

Serve immediately or store in an airtight container to enjoy later.
