Ingredients

  • 275 grams all-purpose flour
  • 7 grams dry yeast
  • 10 grams granulated sugar
  • 2 grams salt
  • 240 milliliters warm water
  • 10 milliliters olive oil
  • 500 milliliters vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 100 milliliters honey
  • 50 milliliters water for syrup
  • 5 grams cinnamon (ground)
  • 30 grams crushed walnuts (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, dry yeast, granulated sugar, and salt.

Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, mixing with a wooden spoon until the batter is smooth and lump-free.

Step 3

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp kitchen towel and place it in a warm spot to rise for about 1 hour or until the batter doubles in size.

While the batter is rising, prepare the syrup by combining honey and water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat and stir until the honey dissolves. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
