Ingredients

  • 500 g ground lamb
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely grated
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 skewers wooden skewers (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, grated onion, minced garlic, parsley, mint, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Use your hands to mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well distributed.

Step 2

Take a handful of the lamb mixture (about 1/4 cup) and shape it into an elongated oval or sausage shape around a skewer if using. Repeat this process with the remaining mixture.

Step 3

If you are not using skewers, simply form the mixture into small log shapes with your hands.

Step 4

Brush each kofta lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking during cooking.

Step 5

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the koftas onto the grill.

Step 6

Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until the koftas are browned and cooked through to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Step 7

Remove the koftas from the heat and let them rest for 2-3 minutes before serving.

Step 8

Serve the koftas with warm pita bread, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, tzatziki sauce, or a fresh Greek salad.
