Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Set aside.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over medium heat until the butter just melts. Allow the mixture to cool to about 110°F (warm but not hot to the touch).

Add the warm milk mixture and the egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6–8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
