Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 60 grams Unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 120 milliliters Whole milk
  • 1 large Egg, beaten
  • 100 grams Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 50 grams Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoons Dried parsley (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Whisk thoroughly to distribute the dry ingredients evenly.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and grated Parmesan cheese, ensuring they are evenly distributed in the mixture.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and beaten egg. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.

Step 6

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it 3–4 times to bring it together into a cohesive ball. Be careful not to overwork the dough.

Step 7

Shape the dough into a rough oval or rectangle about 2 cm (¾ inch) thick. Using a sharp knife or bench scraper, cut the dough into 8 equal pieces.

Step 8

Place the pieces onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a small amount of space between them.

Step 9

If desired, sprinkle the tops of the bread pieces with a pinch of dried parsley for added flavor and presentation.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly crisp on top.

Step 11

Remove the Golden Cheese Bread from the oven and let it cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 12

Serve warm as a side dish, or enjoy on its own with butter or your favorite dipping sauce.
