Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef (85% lean or higher)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium Carrot, finely grated or diced
  • 1 stalk Celery stalk, finely diced
  • 800 grams Crushed tomatoes (gluten-free-certified)
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste (gluten-free-certified)
  • 1 tablespoon Gluten-free soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 piece Bay leaf
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 240 milliliters Water or gluten-free chicken/beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 400 grams Gluten-free spaghetti noodles

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add olive oil and let it warm up for about 1 minute.

Step 2

Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the pan. Sauté the vegetables for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant.

Step 3

Push the vegetables to the side of the pan and add the ground beef. Break the beef apart with a wooden spoon and cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat, if necessary.

Step 4

Stir in the tomato paste and let it cook for 1-2 minutes to deepen the flavor.

Step 5

Add the crushed tomatoes, gluten-free soy sauce or tamari, oregano, basil, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until combined.

Step 6

Pour in the water or gluten-free chicken/beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 7

Meanwhile, cook the gluten-free spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 8

After 30 minutes, remove the bay leaf from the sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if needed.

Step 9

Serve the meat sauce over the gluten-free spaghetti. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
