Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Russet potatoes
  • 2 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Peel the russet potatoes and slice them thinly, about 1/8-inch thick. A mandoline slicer works well for this.

Step 3

In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Step 4

Add the heavy cream, thyme, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg to the saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally, then remove from heat.

Step 5

Butter a 9x13-inch baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the dish.

Step 6

Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, spreading it evenly.

Step 7

Sprinkle half of the Gruyère cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese over the potatoes.

Step 8

Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.

Step 9

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.

Step 11

Allow the gratin to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving, as this will help the dish set up.

Step 12

Serve as a side dish to accompany your favorite main courses and enjoy!
