Ingredients

  • 750 ml Red wine
  • 250 ml Port or Madeira wine
  • 120 ml Vodka
  • 100 g Sugar
  • 1 piece Orange peel
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon stick
  • 12 pods Cardamom pods
  • 10 pieces Cloves
  • 2 pieces Star anise
  • 50 g Raisins
  • 50 g Almonds (blanched and peeled)
  • 250 ml Water

Directions

Step 1

In a large pot, combine the water, orange peel, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves, and star anise.

Step 2

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10 minutes to infuse the spices.

Step 3

Add the sugar to the pot and stir until dissolved.

Step 4

Pour in the red wine and port wine. Heat the mixture over low heat, ensuring it does not come to a boil. Simmer gently for 15 minutes.

Step 5

Add the vodka, raisins, and almonds to the pot. Stir to combine and heat through for another 5 minutes.
