Ingredients

  • 175 grams Unsalted butter
  • 200 grams Brown sugar
  • 150 grams Golden syrup
  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons Ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 250 grams Powdered sugar
  • 2 Egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
  • 200 grams Assorted candies

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large saucepan, melt the butter, brown sugar, and golden syrup over low heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, ground ginger, and ground cinnamon. Gradually add the melted butter mixture into the bowl and mix until a smooth dough forms.

Step 4

Divide the dough into two portions. Roll out each portion to about 5mm thickness on a lightly floured surface.

Step 5

Using a gingerbread house template (downloaded or handmade), cut out the walls, roof, and other structural pieces. Be sure to cut out doors and windows as desired. Transfer the pieces carefully to the prepared baking sheets.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are slightly firm and golden. Remove from the oven and let the gingerbread pieces cool completely on the baking sheets, as they will harden as they cool.

Step 7

While the gingerbread is cooling, prepare the royal icing. In a clean bowl, whisk the egg whites and lemon juice together until frothy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and continue whisking until a thick but pipeable consistency is achieved.

Step 8

Use the royal icing as glue to assemble the gingerbread house. Pipe along the edges of the wall pieces and press them together gently. Allow each section to set before adding the next.

Step 9

Once the structure is solid, attach the roof pieces using the royal icing. Again, let it set before decorating.

Step 10

Decorate the house using the remaining royal icing and assorted candies. Pipe icing along the edges of the roof to create a snow effect, and use candies to adorn the walls, roof, and surrounding area to your liking.

Step 11

Let the completed gingerbread house sit and fully set for at least an hour before displaying or serving. Enjoy your Gingerbread Party House as the highlight of your holiday celebrations!
