Ingredients

  • 6 medium Ripe pears
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon Orange zest
  • 0.25 cup Fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 cup Fresh orange juice
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and dice the pears into small pieces. Aim for uniform sizes to ensure even cooking.

Step 2

Grate the fresh ginger finely and gather the lemon zest and orange zest.

Step 3

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, combine the diced pears, ginger, lemon zest, orange zest, lemon juice, orange juice, sugar, and water.

Step 4

Stir well to ensure the sugar is evenly distributed and turn the heat to medium-high.

Step 5

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking or burning at the bottom.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for 35-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. The pears should soften, and the mixture will thicken.

Step 7

Test the marmalade's consistency by placing a small amount on a chilled plate. If it thickens and wrinkles slightly when pushed, it’s ready. If not, cook for a few more minutes and test again.

Step 8

Once the desired consistency is achieved, remove the marmalade from the heat and let it cool slightly.

Step 9

Pour the marmalade into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace at the top. Wipe the rims clean and seal with lids.

Step 10

Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes, then remove and let them cool completely. Store sealed jars in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. Once opened, refrigerate and use within 2 weeks.
