Ingredients

  • 100 grams fresh ginger root
  • 150 grams granulated sugar
  • 1000 milliliters water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 500 milliliters soda water
  • 1 handful ice cubes
  • 2 slices lemon or lime slices (optional)
  • 5 leaves mint leaves (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Peel the ginger root and slice it thinly to maximize surface area for flavor extraction.

Step 2

In a saucepan, combine the sliced ginger, granulated sugar, and 1000 milliliters of water.

Step 3

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes to infuse the water with ginger flavor.

Step 4

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the ginger syrup cool to room temperature. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container, discarding the ginger pieces.

Step 5

Stir in the lemon juice and lime juice to balance the sweetness with citrusy tanginess.

Step 6

To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour 125 milliliters of the ginger syrup into each glass. Top off with soda water to add fizz.

Step 7

Garnish with optional lemon or lime slices and fresh mint leaves for an extra touch of freshness.

Step 8

Stir gently and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade ginger brew!
