Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup Evaporated milk
  • 3 large Egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.75 cup Sweetened shredded coconut
  • 0.5 cup Chopped pecans

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.

Step 2

Whisk in the granulated sugar and evaporated milk until well combined.

Step 3

In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg yolks. Gradually whisk a few tablespoons of the hot butter mixture into the yolks to temper them, then slowly whisk the tempered yolks into the saucepan.

Step 4

Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 8-10 minutes. Do not let it boil.

Step 5

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and semi-sweet chocolate chips until the chocolate is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Step 6

Fold in the shredded coconut and chopped pecans, mixing until evenly distributed.

Step 7

Allow the sauce to cool slightly before using, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat gently before serving.
