Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground chicken
  • 0.5 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 stalks Green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Fresh ginger, grated
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Canola oil
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 4 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp Rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp Water
  • 0.25 tsp Chili flakes

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, panko breadcrumbs, green onions, 1 minced clove of garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties. Set aside.

Step 3

Prepare the General Tso sauce by whisking together hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, cornstarch, water, and chili flakes in a small bowl.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon of canola oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the remaining minced clove of garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in the prepared General Tso sauce mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 5

Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of canola oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Cook the chicken patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are fully cooked and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Toast the burger buns lightly, if desired.

Step 7

To assemble, spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the base of each burger bun. Top with a lettuce leaf, a chicken patty, and spoon some of the prepared General Tso sauce over the patty. Place the top of the bun on and press lightly.
