Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1.25 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix together 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast.

Step 2

Add 1 1/4 cups of warm water and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a rough dough forms.

Step 3

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with plastic wrap or a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 5

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 24 equal pieces.

Step 7

Roll each piece of dough into a rope about 8 inches long and tie it into a knot. Place the knots onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space in between.

Step 8

Cover the knots lightly with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let rise again for about 20 minutes.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 10

While the knots are baking, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.

Step 11

Add 4 minced garlic cloves to the butter, sautéing for 30-60 seconds until fragrant but not browned.

Step 12

Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley and a pinch of salt.

Step 13

Once the knots are done baking, remove them from the oven and immediately brush them generously with the garlic butter.

Step 14

Sprinkle 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the garlic knots while they are still warm.

Step 15

Serve warm and enjoy your delicious homemade garlic knots!
