Ingredients

  • 500 grams Beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
  • 8 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1.5 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 50 milliliters Water
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 2 stalks Green onions, chopped (optional garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the beef by thinly slicing it against the grain. This will help ensure tender pieces of meat after cooking.

Step 2

In a small mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, brown sugar, cornstarch, black pepper, and water. Stir well until the sugar and cornstarch are dissolved to create the sauce.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.

Step 4

Once the oil is hot, add the sliced beef in a single layer. Sear the beef for 1-2 minutes on each side until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and pour in the prepared sauce. Stir continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken slightly.

Step 6

Return the partially cooked beef to the skillet, and toss to coat it evenly in the sauce. Allow the beef to simmer in the sauce for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the meat is fully cooked and tender.

Step 7

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed (add more soy sauce for saltiness or a pinch of sugar for sweetness).

Step 8

Remove from heat and transfer the garlic beef to a serving dish.

Step 9

Garnish with chopped green onions if desired and serve immediately with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables.
