Ingredients

  • 450 grams Flank steak
  • 300 grams Broccoli florets
  • 60 ml Soy sauce
  • 30 ml Mirin
  • 15 grams Cornstarch
  • 15 ml Sesame oil
  • 30 ml Vegetable oil
  • 10 grams Ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 15 grams Brown sugar
  • 30 ml Sake (optional)
  • 30 grams Green onions, chopped
  • 10 grams Sesame seeds, toasted
  • 4 servings White rice, cooked

Directions

Step 1

Slice the flank steak thinly across the grain into bite-sized pieces. Place in a bowl and toss with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of mirin, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.

Step 2

While the beef marinates, bring a pot of water to a boil. Blanch the broccoli florets for about 2 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and transfer immediately to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.

Step 3

In a small bowl, combine the remaining soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, brown sugar, sake (if using), and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Mix well and set the sauce aside.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes without stirring to allow it to sear. Flip and cook for another 2 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Step 5

In the same pan, add the grated ginger and minced garlic. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 6

Add the blanched broccoli to the pan and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. Return the cooked beef to the pan and toss to combine.

Step 7

Give the sauce mixture a quick stir and pour it into the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and evenly coats the beef and broccoli.

Step 8

Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds.

Step 9

Serve hot over a bed of steamed white rice. Enjoy!
