Ingredients

  • 115 grams unsalted butter
  • 200 grams granulated sugar
  • 50 grams light brown sugar
  • 60 grams unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 pieces large eggs
  • 65 grams all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 75 grams chocolate chips (optional)
  • 50 grams chopped nuts (optional, e.g., walnuts or pecans)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and line an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove the pan from the heat.

Step 3

While the butter is still warm, whisk in the granulated sugar, light brown sugar, and cocoa powder until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.

Step 4

Stir in the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, whisking well after each addition until the batter is thick and glossy.

Step 5

Sift in the all-purpose flour and salt, and gently fold the ingredients together with a silicone spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

If you're using chocolate chips and/or nuts, gently fold them into the batter at this point.

Step 7

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the surface with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies comes out with a few moist crumbs (but not raw batter).

Step 9

Remove the pan from the oven and allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before slicing.

Step 10

Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the brownies out of the pan. Slice into 9 squares and enjoy!
