Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 250 grams Ground pork
  • 2 slices White bread
  • 60 milliliters Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 medium-sized, finely chopped Onion
  • 50 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 20 grams Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard
  • 120 milliliters Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2

In a small bowl, soak the slices of white bread in the milk for a few minutes until softened, then squeeze out excess milk and set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, soaked bread, egg, finely chopped onion, breadcrumbs, ground nutmeg, ground black pepper, and salt. Mix well using your hands or a sturdy mixing spoon until fully combined.

Step 4

Transfer the meat mixture to a greased or parchment-lined loaf pan, shaping it into a compact meatloaf.

Step 5

Spread the mustard evenly over the surface of the meatloaf.

Step 6

Cut the butter into small cubes and dot them over the top of the meatloaf.

Step 7

Pour the water into the loaf pan around the meatloaf (not on top of it). This will help keep the meatloaf moist as it bakes.

Step 8

Place the loaf pan into the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 70°C (160°F).

Step 9

Once cooked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Step 10

Serve warm, ideally with mashed potatoes and a side of vegetables for a classic Dutch meal!
