Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef chuck roast
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 white onion, sliced
  • 4 French rolls or hoagie rolls
  • 8 provolone cheese slices
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Directions

Step 1

Season the beef chuck roast on all sides with kosher salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.

Step 2

In a slow cooker, add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and sliced onion. Place the seasoned beef roast into the liquid.

Step 3

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours, until the beef is tender and easily shredded with a fork.

Step 4

Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker to soak up the juices while keeping it warm.

Step 5

Preheat the oven broiler on high.

Step 6

Slice the French rolls or hoagie rolls in half lengthwise. Spread a small amount of butter on the cut sides of the rolls and toast them under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.

Step 7

Place shredded beef onto the bottom half of each toasted roll. Add two slices of provolone cheese on top of the beef.

Step 8

Place the assembled sandwich bottoms under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, just until the cheese is melted.

Step 9

Top each sandwich with the other half of the roll and serve warm.

Step 10

Ladle the cooking liquid from the slow cooker into small bowls to use as au jus for dipping.

Step 11

Serve immediately and enjoy your French Dip sandwich!
