Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Milk (warm, about 110°F/43°C)
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted and slightly cooled)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (for brushing, optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.

Step 2

Add the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.

Step 3

Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Continue until a soft dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook set to medium speed for 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 16 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball.

Step 7

Arrange the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they are not touching each other to allow for individual freezing.

Step 8

Cover the baking sheet loosely with plastic wrap and freeze the rolls for about 2 hours, or until firm.

Step 9

Transfer the frozen rolls to a resealable freezer bag or airtight container. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Step 10

When ready to bake, place the desired number of frozen rolls on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them thaw and rise for 2-3 hours at room temperature. They should double in size.

Step 11

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter, if desired, for a soft and shiny finish.

Step 13

Serve warm and enjoy!
