Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1.25 cups warm water
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large eggs
  • 8 whole frankfurters (hot dogs)
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and active dry yeast.

Step 2

Gradually add the warm water, melted butter, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.

Step 3

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 6

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a rectangle large enough to wrap around a frankfurter.

Step 7

Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each dough rectangle, then set a frankfurter on top. Roll the dough over the frankfurter, pinching the seams to seal.

Step 8

Place the wrapped frankfurters seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Cover lightly with plastic wrap and let rise for another 20 minutes.

Step 9

Brush the tops of the dough with milk to help it brown evenly.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the loaves are golden brown and cooked through.

Step 11

Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
