Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3 tablespoons Additional melted butter for brushing

Directions

Step 1

In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix briefly to combine.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk, butter, and water until warm (120°F–130°F). The butter does not need to fully melt.

Step 3

Pour the warm liquid mixture into the dry ingredients in the stand mixer. Add the egg.

Step 4

Using the dough hook attachment, mix on low speed, gradually adding the remaining flour, until the dough begins to come together (approximately 3 cups total).

Step 5

Increase the speed to medium and knead the dough for 7–8 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic. The dough should be slightly tacky but not sticky.

Step 6

Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a rectangle approximately 12x18 inches in size.

Step 8

Brush the surface of the dough with 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Starting from the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log.

Step 9

Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them, cut side down, in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 10

Cover the dish and let the rolls rise in a warm place for another 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Step 11

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the rolls have risen, bake them for 18–20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Step 12

Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush them with the remaining melted butter. Let cool slightly before serving.
