Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Pork spareribs
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese five spice powder
  • 4 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 stalks Scallions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the pork spareribs by patting them dry with paper towels. Remove the silver skin on the bone side if not already done.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine Chinese five spice powder, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to make the marinade.

Step 3

Place the spareribs in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the ribs and ensure they are fully coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the marinated spareribs on the wire rack, meaty side facing up. Reserve the leftover marinade.

Step 5

Cover the ribs loosely with a piece of aluminum foil to prevent them from drying out, then place them in the oven. Bake for 1 hour.

Step 6

While the ribs are cooking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil over medium heat and then reduce the heat to low, simmering for 5-7 minutes until it thickens into a glaze.

Step 7

After 1 hour, remove the foil from the ribs and brush them generously with the thickened glaze. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, brushing the ribs with more glaze every 10 minutes, until the ribs are caramelized and tender.

Step 8

Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes before cutting into individual pieces.

Step 9

Garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds if using. Serve warm and enjoy!
