Ingredients

  • 230 grams unsalted butter
  • 300 grams granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 300 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 120 milliliters whole milk
  • 30 grams unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease and flour a standard 9x5-inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar together using a hand or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed to ensure even mixing.

Step 4

Mix in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 6

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three additions, alternating with the whole milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix just until incorporated—do not overmix.

Step 7

Transfer one-third of the batter to a medium bowl. In a small bowl, whisk the unsweetened cocoa powder with the hot water until smooth. Add this cocoa mixture to the reserved batter and gently mix until well combined.

Step 8

Spoon dollops of the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared loaf pan, alternating between the two. Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the batters together to create a marbled effect. Avoid overmixing the batters while swirling.

Step 9

Smooth the top of the batter with a spatula and bake in the preheated oven for 70-75 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.

Step 10

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 11

Slice and serve your fabulous marble pound cake. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
