Ingredients

  • 200 grams All-purpose flour
  • 100 grams Unsalted butter
  • 50 grams Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Cold water
  • 4 medium Apples (e.g., Granny Smith or Golden Delicious)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 50 grams Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 100 milliliters Heavy cream
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and granulated sugar. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and rub it into the flour mixture using your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 2

Add cold water to the mixture, one tablespoon at a time, and mix gently until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in cling film, and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.

Step 3

While the dough chills, peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl until evenly coated.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.

Step 5

Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into a circle slightly larger than the pie dish. Carefully transfer the dough to the dish, pressing it down to fit the base and sides. Trim the edges as needed.

Step 6

Arrange the apple slices evenly in the prepared crust.

Step 7

In a small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture evenly over the apples.

Step 8

Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown. If the crust begins to brown too quickly, cover the edges with aluminum foil.

Step 9

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Optionally, serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
