Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 24 oz Jarred marinara sauce
  • 1 cup Ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Dried Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 12 oz Mini pasta shells (or any short pasta)
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish with olive oil and set aside.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta shells according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 5

Pour the marinara sauce into the skillet with the beef. Stir well to combine, then reduce heat to low and let simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 6

In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until smooth.

Step 7

In the prepared casserole dish, layer half of the cooked pasta shells evenly along the bottom. Spread half of the meat sauce over the pasta, followed by dollops of the ricotta cheese mixture spread evenly. Repeat with another layer of pasta, meat sauce, and ricotta mixture.

Step 8

Top the casserole with the remaining 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Step 9

Cover the dish with aluminum foil (to prevent the cheese from burning) and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.

Step 11

Serve warm and enjoy!
