Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1.25 cups Milk
  • 3 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 pounds Ground beef
  • 1 cup Yellow onion (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Taco seasoning
  • 0.5 cups Water
  • 1 can (15 ounces) Refried beans
  • 2 cups Shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup Diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cups Sour cream
  • 0.5 cups Salsa

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 2

Stir in milk gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 2 minutes, then divide it into 6 equal portions.

Step 4

Roll each portion into a round, flat circle about 6 inches in diameter.

Step 5

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers (approximately 350°F).

Step 6

Fry each piece of dough for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate and set aside.

Step 7

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened, about 8-10 minutes.

Step 8

Drain excess fat from the skillet, then stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5 minutes until the liquid thickens.

Step 9

Heat the refried beans in a small saucepan over low heat or microwave until warm.

Step 10

To assemble the tacos, spread a layer of warm refried beans over each piece of fry bread.

Step 11

Top with seasoned ground beef mixture, then add shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 12

Finish with a dollop of sour cream and a spoonful of salsa, if desired.

Step 13

Serve immediately and enjoy your Easy Indian Tacos!
