Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.25 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1.5 cups Beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Water

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined; do not overmix.

Step 2

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval-shaped patties about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to medium-low and add butter to the same skillet. Once melted, add the thinly sliced onions and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden brown.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and water to make a slurry. Add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet with the onions, and stir in the slurry. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Step 6

Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spoon the gravy over them, and cover with a lid. Cook for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Step 7

Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper, if needed.

Step 8

Serve the hamburger steaks hot with the onion gravy drizzled on top. Pair with your favorite sides such as mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
