Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slice cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 piece burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 piece lettuce leaves
  • 4 slice tomato slices
  • 8 slice red onion slices
  • 12 slice pickle slices
  • 0.25 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 3/4-inch thick. Press a small indent in the center of each patty with your thumb to help prevent doming during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Cook the burger patties for 3-4 minutes on one side without moving them. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until your desired level of doneness is reached. In the final minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and let it melt.

Step 5

While the patties are cooking, cut the burger buns in half and spread butter on the cut sides. Toast the buns, buttered side down, in a separate skillet or on the grill until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

To assemble the burgers, spread mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard (to taste) on the bottom bun. Layer a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, 2 slices of red onion, and 3 pickle slices.

Step 7

Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on top of the vegetables. Finish with the top bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite sides like fries or a salad. Enjoy!
