Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 50 g bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 250 g mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 500 ml beef stock
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2

Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties and set aside.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until nicely browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside, keeping them warm.

Step 4

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until they are soft and golden brown, about 5-6 minutes.

Step 5

Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and cook for another minute, stirring constantly to eliminate any raw flour taste.

Step 6

Gradually add the beef stock to the mushroom mixture, stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the gravy thickens slightly.

Step 7

Stir in the soy sauce and taste for seasoning, adjusting salt and pepper to your preference.

Step 8

Return the burger steaks to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over them. Allow them to heat up for another 3-4 minutes.

Step 9

Garnish with chopped parsley before serving. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice and steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
