Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 50 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 1 large Tomato
  • 4 pieces Cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons Mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 50 grams Crispy fried onions

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, breadcrumbs, and egg. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix, as this can make the patties tough.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into steak-style patties about 1.5 cm thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil and heat until shimmering.

Step 4

Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through to an internal temperature of 70°C (160°F). In the last 1-2 minutes of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover the pan to let the cheese melt. Remove patties from heat and set aside.

Step 5

Slice the burger buns in half and lightly toast them in the same skillet or on a grill for 1-2 minutes until golden and crisp.

Step 6

Prepare the sauce by mixing mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup in a small bowl.

Step 7

Assemble the Bunsteaks: Spread the sauce on both sides of the toasted buns. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a slice of tomato, the cooked patty with melted cheese, and a sprinkle of crispy fried onions. Top with the bun lid.

Step 8

Serve immediately with fries, a side salad, or any preferred accompaniment.
