Bring a touch of whimsy to your table with this adorable and delicious Bunny Bread recipe! Made with a soft and buttery dough enriched with milk and eggs, this bread is as delightful to make as it is to eat. Shaped into a charming bunny complete with raisin or currant eyes, this recipe is perfect for Easter celebrations, springtime gatherings, or any occasion that calls for a fun and creative bake. The dough is easy to prepare, requiring simple ingredients like all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and a hint of sugar for a subtly sweet flavor. After two satisfying rises, you’ll shape the bread into its signature bunny form before baking it to golden perfection. Serve this playful bread warm or at room temperature as a centerpiece your family and friends will adore. It’s not just bread—it’s an edible work of art!
In a small saucepan, gently heat the milk and butter together until the butter has melted. Allow the mixture to cool until it's warm to the touch.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 250 grams of flour, 7 grams of instant yeast, 50 grams of sugar, and 10 grams of salt.
Add the warm milk mixture and two eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until the ingredients are combined.
Gradually add the remaining flour and knead the dough by hand for about 10 minutes or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with plastic wrap or a clean towel. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into two equal parts, and then divide one of those parts into three pieces: one large piece for the body, a slightly smaller piece for the head, and a final piece for the tail.
Shape the larger piece into a smooth oval for the body. Shape the smaller piece into a ball for the head and attach it to the body by gently pressing the pieces together.
Form the remaining small piece into a ball and attach it as the tail. Use pieces of dough to shape ears and attach them to the head.
Using the raisins or currants, press them into the head to form the eyes.
Cover the shaped dough and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Bake the bunny bread in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
