Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Bucatini pasta
  • 12 ounces Broccolini
  • 4 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 units Garlic cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons Red pepper flakes
  • 1 unit Lemon
  • 0.75 cups Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 0 to taste Salt
  • 0 to taste Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.

Step 2

Trim the broccolini by cutting off about 1 inch of the tough stems and slicing any thick stalks lengthwise to ensure even cooking.

Step 3

Add the bucatini pasta to the boiling water and cook according to the package instructions until al dente, usually about 9-11 minutes.

Step 4

In the last 2-3 minutes of pasta cooking time, add the broccolini to the pot with the pasta to blanch it.

Step 5

While the pasta and broccolini cook, heat 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 6

Mince or finely slice the garlic cloves and add them to the skillet. Cook for about 1 minute or until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 7

Stir in the red pepper flakes and cook for an additional 30 seconds.

Step 8

Reserve 1 cup of pasta cooking water and then drain the pasta and broccolini.

Step 9

Add the drained pasta and broccolini to the skillet with the garlic oil. Toss to coat, adding a splash of the reserved pasta water to create a light sauce.

Step 10

Grate the zest of 1 lemon over the pasta, then cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 11

If desired, sprinkle the dish with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Step 12

Serve immediately, garnished with additional Parmesan and a drizzle of olive oil if preferred.
