Ingredients

  • 12 pounds Turkey (whole, thawed)
  • 1 cup Bourbon
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup Soy sauce
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh rosemary (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh thyme (chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons Paprika
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 cups Chicken broth

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

Step 2

Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and remove any giblets from the cavity. Set the turkey aside while you prepare the marinade.

Step 3

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the bourbon, brown sugar, melted butter, soy sauce, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, chopped rosemary, chopped thyme, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until the ingredients are thoroughly blended.

Step 4

Place the turkey in a large roasting pan. Using a basting brush or your hands, generously coat the turkey with half of the bourbon marinade, ensuring the marinade reaches all crevices, including under the skin and inside the cavity.

Step 5

Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the roasting pan to create a moist cooking environment.

Step 6

Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for 3 hours, basting with the remaining bourbon marinade every 30 minutes.

Step 7

After 3 hours, remove the aluminum foil and increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C). Continue roasting for an additional 45 to 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the turkey thigh reaches 165°F (74°C).

Step 8

If the skin begins to brown too quickly, loosely tent the turkey with foil during the final stages of cooking.

Step 9

Once the turkey is cooked through, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Step 10

Serve the bourbon turkey alongside your favorite side dishes and enjoy!
