Ingredients

  • 3 cups Canned navy beans
  • 6 slices Bacon
  • 1 medium Yellow onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 0.5 cups Ketchup
  • 0.25 cups Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Molasses
  • 1.5 tablespoons Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 cups Water or chicken broth

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Dice the bacon into small pieces. In a large, oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, cook the bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside. Leave about 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet.

Step 3

Finely dice the onion and mince the garlic. Add the onion to the skillet and sauté in the bacon grease until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

Step 4

In a bowl, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture into the skillet with the onions and garlic.

Step 5

Drain and rinse the canned navy beans. Add the beans to the skillet along with the cooked bacon. Stir to coat everything evenly in the sauce.

Step 6

Pour in the water or chicken broth, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 7

Cover the skillet or transfer the mixture to a baking dish covered with foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the cover for the last 15 minutes of cooking to allow the sauce to thicken.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Bountiful Baked Beans as a side dish or a hearty main course!
