Ingredients

  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 6 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags
  • 10 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 1 as needed additional blackberries and basil (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of blackberries, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup of water. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the blackberries break down and the sugar dissolves (about 5-7 minutes).

Step 2

Remove the mixture from the heat and strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing the berries to extract all the juice. Discard the solids and set the blackberry syrup aside to cool.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, bring 5 1/2 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and add 4 black tea bags and 10 fresh basil leaves. Let steep for 5 minutes.

Step 4

After 5 minutes, remove the tea bags and basil leaves and allow the tea to cool to room temperature.

Step 5

Once the tea has cooled, combine the brewed tea, prepared blackberry syrup, and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice in a large pitcher. Stir well to combine.

Step 6

Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the tea over the ice. Garnish with additional blackberries and basil leaves if desired.

Step 7

Serve immediately and enjoy this refreshing Blackberry Basil Iced Tea!
