Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 large Yellow onion
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 4 slices American or cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 pieces Brioche buns
  • 0.25 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices Tomato slices
  • 8 pieces Pickle slices

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and gently shape them into patties, about 3/4-inch thick. Use your thumb to make a shallow indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Step 3

Thinly slice the onion. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, add the onion slices, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 12-15 minutes or until caramelized. Stir in butter during the last few minutes of cooking for added richness. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce to create the bistro sauce. Set aside.

Step 5

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium, or adjust based on your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.

Step 6

Lightly toast the brioche buns on the grill or skillet for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Step 7

To assemble the burgers, spread a generous layer of bistro sauce on the bottom bun. Add a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and a burger patty with melted cheese. Top with caramelized onions and pickle slices. Finish with the top bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as fries or salad. Enjoy your bistro cheeseburgers!
