Ingredients

  • 200 grams Digestive biscuits (or graham crackers)
  • 100 grams Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon (optional, for sweet fillings)
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt (optional, for savory fillings)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2

Place the digestive biscuits or graham crackers in a food processor and pulse until they form fine crumbs. Alternatively, place them in a resealable plastic bag and crush them using a rolling pin.

Step 3

Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan or microwave until fully liquefied.

Step 4

In a mixing bowl, combine the biscuit crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. If you're making a sweet crust, stir in the ground cinnamon. If savory, add the salt.

Step 5

Mix well until the crumb mixture resembles damp sand and clumps together when pressed between your fingers.

Step 6

Pour the crumb mixture into a 9-inch (23 cm) pie dish, tart pan, or springform pan.

Step 7

Using the back of a spoon or the base of a measuring cup, press the crumbs firmly and evenly onto the bottom and sides of the pan to form a crust.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the crust is lightly golden and fragrant. Avoid over-baking as it may harden too much.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and allow the crust to cool completely before adding your desired filling.
