Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 4 cups Cooked white rice
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 tbsp Cooking oil
  • 2 tbsp Green onions (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix well and form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.

Step 2

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly grease the pan with 1 tablespoon of cooking oil and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Melt the butter, then sprinkle in the flour. Stir constantly to form a roux, cooking for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Step 4

Slowly whisk in the beef broth, making sure there are no lumps. Add the soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Let the gravy come to a gentle boil, then simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened. Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if desired.

Step 5

In another skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of cooking oil over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the skillet and fry them to your desired doneness (sunny-side up is traditional).

Step 6

To assemble, place 1 cup of steamed white rice on a plate. Lay a hamburger patty on top of the rice, then generously spoon the brown gravy over the patty. Top with a fried egg.

Step 7

Garnish with chopped green onions, if desired, and serve immediately.
