Indulge in the irresistible flavors of Bhuna Prawn with Puri, a classic dish that combines tender, spiced prawns with fluffy, golden puris. This vibrant Indian-inspired recipe features succulent prawns cooked in a rich, aromatic masala made from onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and a medley of traditional spices like cumin, coriander, and garam masala. The prawns are perfectly coated in the luscious gravy, which is balanced with the subtle heat of green chilies. Paired with the crispy, puffed puris—rolled thin and deep-fried to perfection—this dish is a true comfort food experience. Perfect for family dinners or festive gatherings, this meal is not only bursting with authentic flavors but also comes together in just an hour. Serve it hot and garnish with fresh coriander for a complete, mouthwatering feast.
Wash the prawns thoroughly and pat them dry with a paper towel. Set aside.
Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
Add the garlic paste and ginger paste to the onions. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they break down and form a thick gravy, about 5-7 minutes.
Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook the spices for another 2 minutes.
Add the prawns and green chilies to the pan. Stir well to coat the prawns in the spice mixture.
Cover the pan and cook the prawns for 5-7 minutes, or until they are cooked through and tender.
Sprinkle garam masala and fresh coriander leaves. Mix well and remove the pan from heat. Your Bhuna Prawn is ready.
To make puris, divide the puri dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
Roll each ball into a thin disk using a rolling pin, ensuring they are even in thickness.
Heat oil for deep frying in a pan. Once the oil is hot, carefully slide in a rolled-out puri. Fry for about 30 seconds on one side, then flip and fry for another 10-20 seconds, until puffed and golden.
Remove the puri and drain on paper towels. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
Serve the Bhuna Prawn hot with freshly fried puris. Enjoy your meal!
