Ingredients

  • 500 grams minced beef
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 medium tomato
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • 4 pieces garlic cloves
  • 2 pieces green chilies
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon garam masala
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 100 grams peas (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Finely chop the onion and tomatoes. Peel the ginger and garlic, and finely chop them along with the green chilies.

Step 2

Heat the oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them crackle.

Step 3

Add the chopped onion to the pan and sauté until they turn golden brown.

Step 4

Stir in the chopped ginger, garlic, and green chilies and sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 5

Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook until they soften and start to break down, about 5 minutes.

Step 6

Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

Step 7

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the minced beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until the beef is browned evenly, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 8

Pour in the water and bring to a simmer. If using, add the peas to the pan.

Step 9

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes until the beef is cooked through and the flavors meld together. Stir occasionally.

Step 10

Remove the lid and add garam masala. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes.

Step 11

Turn off the heat and garnish with freshly chopped cilantro.

Step 12

Serve hot with rice, naan, or chapati.
