Ingredients

  • 500 grams Cooked ham
  • 1 cup Barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 6 pieces Sandwich buns
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 0.25 cup Pickles (optional)
  • 1 cup Coleslaw (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Chop the cooked ham into small pieces or shred it into bite-sized portions and set aside.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.

Step 3

Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 5 minutes.

Step 4

Add the chopped or shredded ham to the saucepan and stir well to coat the ham in the barbecue sauce.

Step 5

Cover the saucepan and let the ham and sauce simmer on low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure the ham doesn’t burn or stick.

Step 6

While the ham is simmering, slice the sandwich buns in half and lightly butter the cut sides.

Step 7

Toast the buttered buns on a skillet or griddle over medium heat until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes.

Step 8

Assemble the sandwiches by spooning a generous portion of the barbecued ham mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted sandwich bun.

Step 9

Top the barbecued ham with pickles or coleslaw if desired, then place the top half of the bun on each sandwich.

Step 10

Serve the barbecued ham sandwiches warm and enjoy!
