Ingredients

  • 14 oz Extra-firm tofu
  • 1 cup Barbecue sauce
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 0.25 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Press the tofu to remove excess water. Wrap the block of tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object (like a skillet or a stack of plates) on top. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes.

Step 2

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 3

Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.

Step 4

Drizzle the olive oil over the tofu cubes and toss to coat evenly.

Step 5

Sprinkle the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper over the tofu, and gently toss until all the pieces are coated.

Step 6

Spread the tofu cubes evenly across the prepared baking sheet. Be sure they are not touching each other to ensure even crisping.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through to ensure crispness on all sides.

Step 8

While the tofu is baking, warm the barbecue sauce in a small saucepan over low heat or in the microwave until it's slightly heated.

Step 9

Once the tofu is done baking, remove it from the oven and transfer it to a large bowl.

Step 10

Pour the warmed barbecue sauce over the tofu and toss gently to coat each piece evenly.

Step 11

Return the sauced tofu to the baking sheet and bake for another 5 minutes to allow the barbecue sauce to carmelize slightly.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and serve immediately. Enjoy your barbecue tofu as a main dish, in wraps, on top of salads, or as a filling for sandwiches.
