Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon sambal oelek
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced

Directions

Step 1

Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels and place them in a large bowl.

Step 2

Season the wings with salt and black pepper, then sprinkle the cornstarch evenly over them. Toss until all the wings are coated.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Step 4

Fry the wings in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan, for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the wings and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 5

In a separate large skillet or saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the minced ginger and garlic, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 6

Add the soy sauce, kecap manis, lime juice, honey, and sambal oelek to the skillet. Stir to combine and let the sauce simmer for 3-4 minutes until it thickens slightly.

Step 7

Add the fried chicken wings to the skillet, tossing them in the sauce until they are fully coated.

Step 8

Transfer the coated wings to a serving plate. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy your Bali Wings!
