Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 packet Taco seasoning
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 4 Hoagie rolls (or small baguettes)
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican blend cheese)
  • 0.5 cup Sour cream
  • 1 cup Diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup Shredded lettuce
  • 0.25 cup Sliced jalapeños (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (softened)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.

Step 3

Add the taco seasoning and water to the skillet, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens. Set aside.

Step 4

Slice each hoagie roll in half lengthwise, leaving one side attached like a hinge. Gently hollow out some of the bread from the center to create space for the filling.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with garlic powder. Spread the garlic butter mixture on the outside of each hoagie roll for extra flavor.

Step 6

Place the hoagie rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Fill each roll with a generous portion of the taco meat.

Step 7

Top the taco meat with shredded cheddar cheese, distributing evenly across all rolls.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread is golden brown.

Step 9

Remove the sandwiches from the oven and let them cool slightly.

Step 10

Top each sandwich with sour cream, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and optional sliced jalapeños. Garnish with fresh cilantro, if desired.

Step 11

Serve immediately and enjoy your Baked Taco Sandwich!
