Ingredients

  • 3 whole Hass avocados
  • 1 whole Roma tomato
  • 2 whole Garlic cloves
  • 0.5 whole Red onion
  • 1 whole Lime
  • 0.25 cup Fresh cilantro
  • 1 whole Serrano pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the Roma tomato, garlic cloves (with skin on), and Serrano pepper. Roast them for 3-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until charred on all sides.

Step 2

Remove the roasted garlic and Serrano pepper from the skillet and let them cool. Once cooled, peel the garlic and remove the stem from the Serrano pepper. For less heat, remove the seeds from the pepper.

Step 3

Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a large bowl.

Step 4

Finely chop the roasted Serrano pepper, garlic, and the charred Roma tomato. Add them to the bowl with the avocado.

Step 5

Finely dice the red onion and chop the cilantro leaves. Add both to the bowl.

Step 6

Cut the lime in half and squeeze its juice into the mixture to prevent browning and add tanginess.

Step 7

Add the ground cumin, salt, and black pepper to the bowl.

Step 8

Using a fork or potato masher, gently mash the ingredients together until the guacamole reaches your desired texture. Some prefer it chunky, while others like it smooth.

Step 9

Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, lime juice, or pepper if needed.

Step 10

Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or as a topping for tacos, grilled meats, or salads.
