Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 medium, diced yellow onion
  • 3 cloves, minced garlic
  • 4 cups, drained and rinsed canned navy beans
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 0.5 cup, packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon, crumble it into small pieces, and set aside. Reserve 1 tablespoon of the bacon grease in the skillet.

Step 3

Add the diced onion to the skillet with the reserved bacon grease. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the onion is soft and translucent.

Step 4

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, or until fragrant. Remove the skillet from the heat.

Step 5

In a large baking dish or Dutch oven, combine the navy beans, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and water.

Step 6

Add the cooked onions and garlic into the bean mixture, and stir until everything is well combined.

Step 7

Gently fold in the crumbled bacon, reserving a small portion to sprinkle on top if desired.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish or Dutch oven with a lid or aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the cover, give the beans a stir, and bake uncovered for an additional 30-60 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your liking.

Step 10

Remove from the oven, let cool for 5-10 minutes, and garnish with the reserved bacon if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
