Ingredients

  • 2 sheets Puff pastry sheets
  • 4 medium Apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Milk

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Place them in a large bowl.

Step 3

Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract to the apples. Toss well to coat and set aside.

Step 4

Lightly dust your work surface with flour and roll out the puff pastry sheets if needed to smooth out any folds.

Step 5

Place one sheet of puff pastry onto the prepared baking sheet.

Step 6

Spoon the apple mixture evenly onto the center of the puff pastry, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges.

Step 7

Dot the apple filling with small pieces of unsalted butter.

Step 8

Carefully place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the apples. Use a fork to press and seal the edges of the pastry sheets together.

Step 9

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to make an egg wash.

Step 10

Brush the egg wash over the top layer of puff pastry to give it a golden finish when baked.

Step 11

Using a sharp knife, make a few small slits on top of the pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.

Step 12

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.

Step 13

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Step 14

Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat.
