Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground turkey
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple
  • 1 cup Sharp cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 8 pieces Tomato slices
  • 0 Optional condiments (mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, etc.)

Directions

Step 1

Wash and core the Granny Smith apple, then grate it using a box grater or food processor. Squeeze out excess juice using a paper towel or cheesecloth.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, grated apple, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently but thoroughly until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about ¾ inch thick. Use your thumb to make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat and add the olive oil. Alternatively, preheat an outdoor grill to medium heat and lightly grease the grates.

Step 5

Cook the burgers for 6-7 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) as measured with a meat thermometer. Avoid pressing down on the patties to keep them juicy.

Step 6

While the burgers are cooking, toast the burger buns on the skillet, grill pan, or grill until lightly golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a cooked turkey patty, 2 tomato slices, and any desired condiments. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve the Apple Cheddar Turkey Burgers immediately and enjoy!
